APPEAL 15th Anniversary Conference and Dinner

Talk Story: Sharing Strategies for Sustainable Change

Tobacco and Food Justice for

Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders and Asian Americans (NHPIs and AAs)

June 3 - 4, 2010

Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel
609 Sutter Street
San Francisco, CA 94102

Talk Story: Sharing Strategies for Sustainable Change was an important gathering for leaders in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander and Asian American communities (NHPI and AA) to share compelling stories about how our communities are impacted by tobacco and obesity and to discuss innovative strategies to create necessary and sustainable change.

The conference combined community representation and participation with knowledge-sharing and presentations by experts on food justice and tobacco control.  Talk Story: Sharing Strategies for Sustainable Change brought together advocates from across the Pacific Islands, including American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia, as well as NHPI and AA leaders from across the continental United States including Alaska, Maryland, Georgia, Washington, New York, and California.

APPEAL would like to thank all of the participants for traveling to the conference and sharing your insights, expertise and spirit.  The key to the success of Talk Story: Sharing Strategies for Sustainable Change was the historic coming together of NHPI and AA leaders to strategize and learn from one another how we can continue to build healthier communities.  To view photos from the conference, please click here.
