LAAMPP II

Creating a legacy of social change in Minnesota communities.

The second Leadership and Advocacy Institute to Advance Minnesota's Parity for Priority Populations (LAAMPP II) is a cross-cultural leadership program designed to build the capacity of Minnesota's priority populations to effectively respond to tobacco control issues. These populations, which have historically been underrepresented within the mainstream tobacco control movement and disproportionately impacted by commercial tobacco, are defined here as the African/African American, American Indian, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Chicano/Latino, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) communities.

Adapted from the APPEAL Leadership Model, LAAMPP II is an innovative and culturally tailored leadership program designed to train and mobilize 35 leaders from priority populations throughout Minnesota to implement tobacco control interventions and policies. The year-long fellowship provides trainings in capacity building, leadership development, and technical assistance to support our leaders in their tobacco control projects. LAAMPP II consists of 15-20 days of training over the course of one year, focusing on five core areas: advocacy, collaboration, cultural and community competence, facilitation, and expanding tobacco control and prevention capacities.
