Washington, DC -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a national education campaign that depicts the harsh reality of illness and damage real people suffer as a result of smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. The ads show the toll smoking-related illnesses take on real people and their loved ones.

Asian Community Organizations Collaborate to Institute Policy Change

Palau Launches "Share the Road" to Promote Pedestrian Safety

The National Asian American and Pacific Islander Network to Eliminate Health Disparities (NAPNEHD) is a program offered by APPEAL to promote healthy eating and active living. As one of NAPNEHD's key partners, the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Palau (CTFP) has created a new social marketing campaign that promotes pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Highlighting the APPEAL Research and Data Subcommittee

We would like to highlight the APPEAL Research and Data subcommittee, which provides expertise and leadership to APPEAL on issues pertaining to tobacco research and data in Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities. Subcommittee members include distinguished leaders from the community, academia, and philanthropy. This subcommittee is chaired by Dr. Elisa Tong, Assistant Professor, Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Tong has published numerous studies on tobacco control in the Asian American community.

APPEAL Awarded Community Transformation Grant through CDC

We are pleased to announce that APPEAL has been awarded a 5-year grant through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), contingent upon annual federal appropriations. This award of $1.5 million is made through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Dissemination and Support Initiative of the Community Transformation Grants (CTG) program. APPEAL is honored to be one of the seven national networks to receive awards through the CTG program, which has an overall goal to support, disseminate, and amplify the evidence-based strategies of the CTG program in communities nationwide.
